Market Sentiment
How to Read Retail Sentiment
What the Numbers Mean
65% long on EUR/USD means that 65 out of every 100 open retail positions on that pair are buys. The bar shows the split at a glance, so a quick scan tells you where the crowd is leaning across the whole market.
The Contrarian Reading
Retail crowds tend to fade trends, so extreme values often mark exposure rather than conviction: a market where 80% of traders are long is a market where a squeeze can only go one way. Many traders use extremes as a warning, not an entry.
A Market-Wide Sample
A single broker's book only tells you about that broker's clients. Our sentiment engine samples several large, independent pools of retail accounts, so the reading reflects the market's crowd rather than one venue's.
Limitations
Sentiment says nothing about the position sizes held by institutions, and extremes can stay extreme for weeks. Treat it as context for your own strategy — a filter against joining the most crowded side — never as a standalone signal.
